Trouble in “Downtown” - a 17 y/o teen guns a man down, sez it was self-defense, his White GF concurs

The fine teen below has been charged with murder, aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Only 17 years old and already a “convicted felon.” How has America failed him or, did he fail America? What complexity, I’ll leave that mystery for the experts to determine. I’m just a PC kind of guy trying to figure it all out. Sam‘s the name, Sam the Sausage Head.

Here’s the fine and upstanding victim, he was gunned down in the prime of life, after what appears to be nothing more that a minor and insignificant dispute. This fine, fine man could have been the next president of the United States. He could have become a great inventor, a world renowned architect or the builder of the 8th wonder of the world but no, nooo, that can never be, multiple gunshots ended his life. I blame this crime on those bad, evil, nasty, repulsive, guns. What about you?

The incident took place at the apartment complex shown below/ Obviously a place of abode beneath the dignity and respect either man deserved.

Below, the girlfriend of the man charged and detained by police. She witnessed the entire incident, she stated her man acted not of out anger and shame, but entirely in self-defense. I say with heavy heart, don’t worry honey, the police will soon realize their tragic mistake and your sweet man will be coming home soon. He’ll be coming home soon.

The auntie of the accused below. She stood up for her nephew while commenting that even though her cherished loved one packed a piece and shot a man multiple times, “he wasn’t a violent person.” Of course not dear, these things happen. I’ve never seen an auntie lie, her voice was like a song unto my ears. Her words, true gold. Gosh, I’m all choked up here.

Suspected Killer's Family Calls Fatal Shooting Self-Defense

A Clay County family spoke out on Wednesday to defend a teenage loved one who police said used a gun to kill a man in front of his home.

According to relatives, 17-year-old Thomas Felton was defending himself and his family when he opened fire and killed 20-year-old Richard Jordan.

According to police, Felton shot Jordan several times during an argument.

Police arrested Felton early Tuesday morning and charged him with murder, aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Felton's family said the teen is not a violent person and did not want Jordan's death to be the result of a petty argument.

The teen's girlfriend, Jennifer Emler, said she was there when the argument happened but that her boyfriend's actions were in self-defense.

"(Jordan) threatened us. He (Felton) was protecting my kids, me, his sister and his nieces and his uncle," said Emler.

Felton's aunt, Gloria Felton, said the shooting was out of character for her nephew.

"I wouldn't expect for him to do that because he's not a violent person, you know. I've never known him to be violent," Felton said.

Emler said the teen had no choice but violence because Jordan threatened him and the people in the apartment with his firearm.

"This boy said, 'We'll, I'm going to come back with a bigger gun and shoot up everybody in the house, and nobody's going to be alive,'" Emler said.

She said she watched Felton's life change before her eyes as soon as he pulled the trigger.

She said he stood motionless and didn't say a word as if he were stunned by what had happened.

Police said they did not find a gun on Jordan or in the car he was riding in, but Emler insisted the 20-year-old had the weapon at the time of the argument.

Whether Felton's actions were justified will be determined in the court. However, Gloria Felton said regardless of the outcome, two families have been changed forever.

"It's a tragic situation for both families. We were raised around here together. It's tragic for both families -- we lost two kids," Felton said.

Mexican shooting from hillside arrested - known as "John Doe" because he gave three false names

A Polk County man was under arrest for shooting three passing cars with an automatic rifle.

Haines City police caught the man standing along Bates Road and US-17/92 with the high-powered gun Saturday. Officers said one woman was shot in the leg and another victim was hit by shattered glass.

The suspect was booked in the Polk County jail as "John Doe" because he gave police three different names.

Convicted Child Abuser Accused Of Punching Son In Face

TAMPA - A man convicted last month of felony child abuse has been arrested again after police said he punched his 14-year-old son and possibly broke the boy's nose.

Charles M. Hugee, 46, of 9409 N. Mulberry St., was held without bail today at Orient Road Jail. Police charged him Sunday evening with felony aggravated child abuse.

According to a criminal report affidavit, Tampa police responded to Hugee's address about 9:30 p.m. Sunday because of a family disturbance.

Officers learned that Hugee had come home intoxicated and been verbally abusive toward the mother of his five children, the affidavit states. When he tried to push her into a room, his 14-year-old son intervened, and Hugee punched the boy in the face, the affidavit states.

Officers noted the boy's nose and lip were bloody and his nose was possibly broken, the affidavit states.

The arrest violates Hugee's felony probation on a previous child-abuse charge, records show.

Florida Department of Corrections records state that Hugee is under community supervision until July 2010 after he pleaded guilty last month to felony child abuse. That case involved Hugee striking three of his children in the upper body and head with a belt in April, a police report states.

Negro teaches her offspring how to steal White women’s purses

Fort Smith police arrested 25-year-old Bridget Kursh. They believe she stole nine purses in one weekend. Erica Neuroth says her baby was in a cart at Wal-Mart when Kursh snatched her wallet out of her purse.

Neuroth says, "I just can’t believe that someone would go that low to steal someone’s purse with a child in the cart and me standing right there. I just can’t believe there’s people like that."

Neuroth isn’t the only one. All nine victims say they were distracted while shopping and when they turned around, their purses were gone. Police say Kursh actually worked with two young children. Kursh distracted the victims while a 10-year-old boy grabbed the purses and ran off. Police arrested the boy as well.

Neuroth explains, "There are no words for someone who could do that, especially with a child. I couldn’t imagine ever using my son like that."

Surveilance video caught the purse snatchers on camera in the store and out in the parking lot getting into a maroon Mercury Sable. Victims say, they’re happy to hear Kursh is behind bars.

Neuroth says, “I'm glad she got caught, she deserves it."

Kursh has been booked in the Sebastian County Jail. As for the little boy. Police booked him into the Juvenile Detention Center. He’s also charged with nine counts of property theft.

British Army deploys new weapon based on mass-killing technology

Parliament not told, minister says

A new 'super-weapon' being supplied to British soldiers in Afghanistan employs technology based on the "thermobaric" principle which uses heat and pressure to kill people targeted across a wide air by sucking the air out of lungs and rupturing internal organs.

The so-called "enhanced blast" weapon uses similar technology used in the US "bunker busting" bombs and the devastating bombs dropped by the Russians to destroy the Chechen capital, Grozny.

Such weapons are brutally effective because they first disperse a gas or chemical agent which is lit at a second stage, allowing the blast to fill the spaces of a building or the crevices of a cave. When the US military deployed a version of these weapons in 2005, DefenseTech wrote an article titled, "Marines Quiet About Brutal New Weapon."

According to the US Defense Intelligence Agency, which released a study on thermobaric weapons in 1993, "The [blast] kill mechanism against living targets is unique--and unpleasant.... What kills is the pressure wave, and more importantly, the subsequent rarefaction [vacuum], which ruptures the lungs.… If the fuel deflagrates but does not detonate, victims will be severely burned and will probably also inhale the burning fuel. Since the most common FAE fuels, ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, are highly toxic, undetonated FAE should prove as lethal to personnel caught within the cloud as most chemical agents."

A second DIA study said, "shock and pressure waves cause minimal damage to brain tissue... it is possible that victims of FAEs are not rendered unconscious by the blast, but instead suffer for several seconds or minutes while they suffocate."

"The effect of an FAE explosion within confined spaces is immense," said a CIA study of the weapons. "Those near the ignition point are obliterated. Those at the fringe are likely to suffer many internal, and thus invisible injuries, including burst eardrums and crushed inner ear organs, severe concussions, ruptured lungs and internal organs, and possibly blindness."

British defense officials told the UK Guardian that British bombs were "different."

"They are optimized to create blast [rather than heat]", one said, speaking on the standard condition of anonymity in Britain. The official added that it would be misleading to call them "thermobaric."

Officials told the Guardian the new weapon was classified as a soldier launched "light anti-structure munition" and that the bombs would be more effective because "even when they hit the damage is limited to a confined area."

"The continuing issue of civilian casualties in Afghanistan has enormous importance in the battle for hearts and minds," said Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell in the article. "If these weapons contribute to the deaths of civilians then a primary purpose of the British deployment is going to be made yet more difficult."

According to Campbell, the deployment of the weapons was not announced to Parliament.

Non-White Justice --- > Indian policeman drowns girls for taking firewood

A drunk, upper-caste Indian policeman Has killed two low-caste girls by throwing them in a river in eastern India for stealing firewood from his orchard.

On Wednesday, Chandani Kumari, six, and Kamali Kumari, 13, sneaked into the policeman's orchard in Manipur village in Bihar state along with some friends.

Catastrophic monsoon flooding in the region has made food and fuel scarce.

The policeman caught Chandani and Kamali and threw them in a fast-moving river with the help of a friend, a senior state official said.

Police are looking for the men, both of whom have fled the village.

Upper-caste people in rural areas often treat those at the bottom of the Hindu caste system as lesser human beings. Low-caste people in India endure a disproportionate number of beatings, rapes and killings.

No decision on farmer who fired warning shots at burglars

A Waikato farmer who fired two warning shots over the heads of petrol thieves and held them until police arrived, has yet to hear if he will face charges.

The Morrinsville farmer found the two men allegedly stealing petrol from his farm 10 days ago.

As the pair tried to flee the farmer blocked their way with a farm vehicle before firing two warning shots from his shotgun and ordering them out of the vehicle.

A neighbour came to the farmer's aid and they detained the two men until police arrived.

The pair later appeared in Hamilton District Court on burglary charges and were remanded.

The farmer won wide support from people in the area and other farmers, frustrated at the high level of thefts from their properties.

But police said today they were still considering if the farmer would be charged.

Detective Sergeant Greg Nicholls from the Hamilton CIB, said it was a sensitive issue and police wanted to be sure they made the right decision.

He said they were still waiting for a forensic report from the scene and when that arrived it would be discussed with the crown solicitor in Hamilton.

"Because of the ramifications of a decision it needs to be dealt with fairly carefully."

He said police were aware there was a lot of local interest in the police decision.

"That's why I need to do things correctly. The ramifications of us going one way or the other are quite wide-reaching so it has to be the correct decision," Mr Nicholls said.

Livestock agent Regan Craig said last week the community was behind the farmer and most farmers would do what he did to protect his property.

Witch Doctors kill/dismember a woman, hacked up a couple girls to make "magic charms" in Nigeria

Fetish killers dismember woman on farm in Nigeria

Killers in search of body parts to make magic charms hacked up a woman and severely injured two girls on remote farmland in central Nigeria, police have said.

Scores of people fled villages in the Oju district of Benue state, near the border with Cameroon, as word of the killing spread, prompting authorities to impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew.

"The woman's two ears were cut off, her hands were chopped off, her stomach was ripped open, her heart removed and her vagina was taken away," said a police spokesman from the state capital Makurdi.

Two girls who were with the woman also suffered deep machete cuts but survived the attack and are recovering in a local hospital, he added.

The attack occurred on Aug. 11, but the report reached state police command only on Tuesday because of poor communications.

Killing for rituals is common in Nigeria, Africa's most populous country, where many believe witchcraft involving the use of human organs can make them instant millionaires or provide protection.

Nigeria is nominally divided equally between Christians and Muslims, but many mix these imported faiths with traditional beliefs.

Sorcerers often use human genitals, eyes, tongues and skulls to make charms.

In 2004, police discovered 83 decomposing, mutilated corpses in a raid on fetish shrines in a teak forest near Okija town in southeastern Anambra state. About 30 witch-doctors were arrested.

The former Anambra state governor, Chris Ngige, said he was taken to the forest to take an oath with some political sponsors before assuming office in 2003.

Aussie Jews fear rising anti-Semitism

A recent baseball bat attack on a young Jewish man in Melbourne has shaken his tight community and prompted fears that anti-Semitism has reached frightening new levels in Australia.

The trendy suburb of Balaclava, just a few kilometres from the CBD, is the epicentre of Melbourne Jewry with its synagogues, Jewish schools, kosher butchers and wineshops and cafes staffed by Israeli backpackers.

The sort of place where Jews should feel safe.

But as Victoria University anti-Semitism expert Professor Danny Ben-Moshe pointed out, if someone wants to bash a Jew in Melbourne they know where they can find one – in Carlisle Street, Balaclava.

He said attacks on Jews, which range from physical assault such as that on businessman Menachem Vorchheimer last October by a group of footballers returning from the races, anti-Semitic graffiti or abuse hurled from passing cars accumulate and give Jews a sense of exposure to racial and religious hate.

Earlier this month, two suburban Melbourne cricket clubs were investigated after some members posted anti-Semitic material on the internet about a rival Jewish club.

The Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV) said its members were offended by vicious comments made by players from the McKinnon and Beaumaris cricket clubs on a Facebook website called "FU Ajax Cricket Club".

But Prof Ben-Moshe said anti-Semitism cranked up to an alarming new level last Saturday night when two men, who remain at large, bashed 17-year-old Alon Tam with baseball bats near Mister Glick's takeaway shop in Carlisle Street.

"The most recent attack clearly shows that in a range of different ways, and in a range of different forms, there are individuals who still feel anti-semitism is a legitimate form of activity," Prof Ben-Moshe said.

The men had returned to the scene after earlier confronting Ephraim Manshari, 17, who had seen them chasing an Indian Sikh down the road shouting "f. . .ing Arab" at him.

It was then that they threw chairs through the popular fast food shop's front window.

"It is a frightening new level of anti-Semitism in Australia," Prof Ben-Moshe said.

Russian paper explains how to copy Putin's body

A step-by-step guide to building a body like President Vladimir Putin's was available to readers of a Russian newspaper.

Official photographs of the 54-year-old leader holidaying in southern Siberia last week showed him fishing with his shirt off to display a well-honed torso.

He was also shown on horseback in sunglasses, gloves and a body-hugging white vest.

"He has some great definition under that shirt," said the Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid, Russia's biggest circulation newspaper which specialises in admiring coverage of Putin.

Under the headline: "Get a body like Putin's", the daily published an exercise guide by a fitness instructor. An accompanying diagram of Putin's naked torso had arrows pointing to his major muscle groups.

Putin, who is married with two daughters, has attributed his physique to sports – he is an accomplished practitioner of judo and a keen downhill skier.

2 Palestinian children killed by IDF fire

Israeli forces target Qassam rocket launchers in Gaza Strip, two children killed in crossfire. IDF: Anyone who is next to a launching cell is in danger

Associated Press

Israeli forces killed two Palestinian children along the Gaza-Israel border on Tuesday, Palestinian medical officials said.

he two dead were 10 and 12 years old, according to Dr. Muawiya Hassanin of the Palestinian Health Ministry. A third child, 10, was seriously wounded and six other people were lightly hurt, he said.

The army said troops targeted two figures spotted near a rocket launcher in an area where a rocket had been fired into Israel earlier.

A third child, 10, was seriously wounded and six other people were lightly hurt, all of them civilians, Hassanin said.

The army said Palestinian rocket teams have been known to send young children to retrieve rocket launchers after the projectiles are fired. "In light of the reports, it seems likely that this was the case here," the army said in a statement.

"Anyone who is next to a launching cell is in danger," the IDF said.

Earlier Tuesday, Israeli troops killed three Islamic Jihad militants in southern Gaza, and on Monday, the Israeli air force killed six Hamas gunmen. The Israeli military regularly carries out attacks targeting Palestinian militants launching rockets at towns in southern Israel.

Gaza militants fired three rockets into Israel on Tuesday, the army said, including one that hit an empty kindergarten in the town of Sderot.

Black murders 80 y/o White woman so he can take his White GF shopping

A woman who police said may have been a witness to the slaying an 80-year-old woman arrived at police headquarters for questioning Wednesday afternoon.

Early Wednesday, police released several surveillance pictures from a Southside Wal-Mart that show the potential witness with John Middleton, a suspect in the death of Virginia Harritt.

Harritt's son found his mother's body in her Mandarin apartment last week after he had not heard from her in a while.

Middleton was a maintenance worker at the Woodlake Park Apartments at San Jose Boulevard and Sunbeam Road, where Harritt had recently moved. As a maintenance worker, Middleton was trusted with keys to every apartment in the complex.

While Middleton made several ATM withdraws around town, according to police, the photos from the Wal-Mart on Beach Street and Southside Boulevard are the only images that show a woman with the suspect.

Police said the possible witness and Middleton used Harritt's bank card at the Wal-Mart.

Investigators said the motive in Harritt's slaying was to get the woman's ATM information.

Police have not released the name of the woman seen with Middleton. They said she went to the police headquarters on her own accord even though a police cruiser brought her to the station.

"We believe her to be a witness to this horrific incident. As you can see in the picture, she is there with Middleton. This is right after an ATM transaction using the victim's ATM card," said JSO spokesperson Ken Jefferson.

Middleton turned himself in Saturday and is charged with home-invasion robbery and murder. No charges have been filed against the woman.

"We're considering her as a witness," Jefferson said.

Jacksonville police say a man, suspected of killing an 80-year-old woman is in jail. Police say 25-year-old John Middleton turned himself in.

Cops had been searching for him since they found Virginia Harritt's body inside her Mandarin apartment, Wednesday night.

Sunday, her son went back inside the apartment for the first time, since her death.

Paul Harritt says it's a small victory knowing Middleton is behind bars now.

Middleton worked as a maintenance man at the appartment complex Harritt helped his mother move into earlier this month. That's also where Middleton lived. Police say the motive for the murder was robbery.

Harritt knew what he was walking into as he made his first step back into his mother's apartment.

"Hell. Because I have to relive the night that I walked into that apartment," said Harritt, Virginia's son.

"Mrs. Harritt was found with telephone cord and duct tape bound around her ankles, wrists, and duct tape covering her mouth," said Lt. Pat Ivey, with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Harritt says since the day his mother's body was found, he has grown close to some of the officers.

"They're the world to us. They've supported us throughout this whole ordeal," said Harritt.

Harritt says his mother, only moved there two weeks ago.

"She was assured it was safe. That everything around here was safe. Safe was the key word, it was safe. It's not," said Harritt.

He says she was excited because she could pick up an old love of hers.

"She could start up her painting again, she loved her painting, she was a wonderful painter. She just had so much life left in her. It's not fair, it's not natural. She'll be deeply missed," said Harritt.

Missed mostly, of course, by her family.

"She's done a lot of things for a lot of people. Me. She's done a lot for me," said Harritt.

Harritt says he would only ask Middleton one thing.

"Why?

Black Leaders Demand Apology For Editorial Cartoon - Cartoonist Drew Gunman Wearing 'Don't Snitch' T-Shirt

An editorial cartoon in last Friday's Florida Times-Union depicting a gunman wearing a T-shirt saying "Don't Snitch" continues to draw criticism, with some black leaders calling for an apology, the firing of the cartoonist and other demands.

Two young children drawn in the cartoon say "I didn't see nuttin'!" Then the gunman says, "Now that's a good little ho!

In a letter sent to all Jacksonville television stations as well as the newspaper, the Jacksonville Leadership Coalition called the cartoon "racist, culturally insensitive and degrading to African-American women."

In addition to the apology, the group also called for the firing of cartoonist Ed Gamble, the hiring of a person of African-American descent for the newspaper's editorial board and a meeting with black leaders to "resolve the issue."

The letter quotes the Rev. Rudolph McKissick Jr., who described the cartoon as "insensitive to African American women, children and the community."

In Sunday's Times-Union, editorial page editor Mike Clark said that while he reviewed and approved the cartoon, he admits that "Using the word 'ho' was bad judgment, and I regret that I did not edit it out."

The newspaper's reader advocate quoted Gamble as saying that while he appreciated that the term was demeaning to women, he said, "I was making a point that rappers are demeaning to women."

In the background of the cartoon, a billboard displays: "Rap your life away."

Brunswick Teen Slaying Suspect Caught In S.C. - Police Say 17-Year-Old Planned To Leave Country

A 17-year-old wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy in a Glynn County street early Saturday morning was arrested about 24 hours later on a Greyhound bus in Manning, S.C.

Aaron Brennan was found shot in the head in the 100 block of Stafford Avenue just after midnight Saturday. Within hours of the shooting, police named Kealyn Shanard Mitchell a suspect.

Police said they learned that Mitchell was planning to leave the country and asked the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Service for help apprehending him.

Friends said Brennan, the youngest of seven children, was out with friends and his brother when he was shot and that he might not have been Mitchell's intended target.

"We were standing outside and the boy that came around shooting, he came down and started shooting four times. Everybody went running and scattering. We came back outside and I saw my brother laying on the ground, dying," George Brennan said.

Friends and family said the 15-year-old would rest in peace now that an arrest has been made in the shooting.

Defense Rests In Phil Spector Trial

Fifth Woman Testifies About Alleged Gunplay

The defense has conditionally rested its case in the Phil Spector murder trial, announcing that the music producer will not testify.

After that decision, Devra Robitaille, a former romantic interest of Spector, testified that the music producer threatened her at gunpoint twice about 10 years apart as she tried to leave his homes.

Other women called earlier by the prosecution described similar scenarios involving Spector.

Robitaille was called as a witness in the prosecution's rebuttal case, a move opposed by the defense on grounds the prosecution held back the witness for a surprise ending element. The judge disagreed.

Spector is accused of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003, a few hours after she went home with him from her job as a nightclub hostess.

Her body was slumped in a chair in the foyer, her purse slung over an arm. She died from a gunshot fired inside her mouth.

The defense claims she shot herself.

Bill Murray Suspected Of Driving Golf Cart Drunk

STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Swedish police say Bill Murray could face drunken driving charges after rolling through downtown Stockholm in a golf cart.

Police said Wednesday that the actor smelled of alcohol when they pulled over his slow-moving cart.

When asked to blow into a breath test, he refused -- citing American laws, according to detective-inspector Christer Holmlund of the Stockholm police.

So police did it the old-fashioned way with a blood test. Results will come back in 14 days.

The star of "Caddyshack," "Groundhog Day" and "Ghostbusters," who was an Oscar nominee for "Lost In Translation," was in Sweden for a golf tournament.

Murray signed a document admitting he was driving under the influence and agreed to let an officer plead guilty for him if the case goes to court, Holmund said.

Police said that Murray didn't seem obviously drunk, and that he will probably end up being fined.

As for the actor's whereabouts now, police said that he probably went back to America.

Man "visiting" from Trinidad attacks a 20 y/o & a 13 y/o with a machete and rapes them (White victims?)

Palm Bay police used calls made from a rape victim's stolen cell phone to track down her attacker. Police said the 19-year-old suspect from Trinidad broke into a home and raped a woman with her family members nearby.

Police said the man came to Palm Bay from Trinidad to look at colleges. It started with him allegedly looking at a young girl and a young woman through their windows, but now he's looking at spending his time in the U.S. behind bars.

Dwayne Modeste had little to say as he was led away to jail. Police said the 19-year-old was walking down his street when he saw a 13-year-old girl and 20-year-old woman in front of their home. When they went inside, he still apparently wanted to see more.

"He started by looking in the windows and watching them and then he entered the house," explained Det. Steve Hill, Palm Bay Police Department.

When the 13-year-old screamed, police said, he originally ran outside, but then came back in and went into a room where the 20-year-old was and was able to attack her sexually.

The victim's aunt started beating him with a mop handle, until she was overpowered and then she ran back into a bedroom.

"He armed himself with a machete that he found in the kitchen, threw it into the bedroom in their direction," Hill said.

Modeste eventually left with their cell-phone. He was staying with his grandparents, who told Eyewitness News they didn't know about the crime until police showed up and said he has brought disgrace and shame upon their family.

Police were able to find him by essentially tracing cell phone calls made from the stolen cell phone. Federal immigration officials were called, but local police said they believe he will be prosecuted in the U.S. before being allowed to go back to Trinidad.

Bush Talks Security With Mexico, Canada

Leaders Of 3 North American Nations Tout Close Ties At Quebec Summit

President Bush's summit with the leaders of Canada and Mexico is likely to produce little more than promises of cooperation — and some signs of disunity.

Mr. Bush came to this resort town on the Ottawa River to strengthen his ties with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon. They were poised to announce at least one wrinkle, an effort to clarify border security plans in emergencies.

Yet for all the gestures of unity, there were differences that were handled much more gingerly, spanning from Arctic waterways to passport policies to the war in Afghanistan.

Overshadowing the two-day event was the menacing Hurricane Dean — to the point that the schedule was rearranged to accommodate Calderon. He will attend every event Tuesday but will leave Canada earlier than planned to head home and deal with the storm that started moving ashore before dawn Tuesday.

The summit resumed Tuesday as the three leaders began talks with a council of corporate executives from each of the countries. The business group is pushing for broader coordination across North America, from regulatory standards to emergency planning.

Security and trade issues dominated talks among the North American leaders. Their goal is to make their borders safer without impeding their trade-and-tourism relationship.

Yet even their security partnership has stirred fears in Canada and the U.S. that more North American integration will derail national sovereignty. About 2,000 demonstrators descended on the Montebello in protest; police used tear gas to push back several dozen.

Broken arms prod game recall in Japan

Maker of arm-wrestling machines to yank it from arcades

TOKYO - Lose a game of chess to a computer, and you could bruise your ego. Lose an arm-wrestling match to a Japanese arcade machine, and you could break your arm.

Distributor Atlus Co. said Tuesday it will remove all 150 "Arm Spirit" arm wrestling machines from Japanese arcades after three players broke their arms grappling with the machine's mechanized appendage.

"The machine isn't that strong, much less so than a muscular man. Even women should be able to beat it," said Atlus spokeswoman Ayano Sakiyama, calling the recall "a precaution."

"We think that maybe some players get overexcited and twist their arms in an unnatural way," she said. The company was investigating the incidents and checking the machines for any signs of malfunction.

Players of "Arm Spirit" advance through 10 levels, battling a French maid, drunken martial arts master and a Chihuahua before reaching the final showdown with a professional wrestler.

The arcade machine is not distributed overseas.

Black kills his 2 y/o daughter, 7 y/o step-son and then himself

A father shot and killed his daughter and stepson before killing himself, authorities said.

Police were called to a home in south Fulton County around 10 p.m. Monday after the man's wife ran from the home when the shooting began.

The 2-year-old girl, Chasmin Payne, was found dead at the scene of a gunshot to the head. Keevin Bridges, 7, was hot in the head and was taken to a hospital where he later died, Fulton County police spokesman Gary Syblis said.

The man was identified as Chad Payne, 32, said Meredith Galloway, an investigator with the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office. Syblis said he had shot himself in the head.

"As for a motive, we don't know that," Syblis said. "It's going to be a domestic situation; we don't know anything else further beyond that."

Deputies: Toddler, Four Men, Crack, Pistols Found in Broken Down Car

Newberry County deputies have arrested four men after they say they discovered crack cocaine and two pistols in a car that had broken down on the C.R. Koon Highway in Newberry County.

Investigators say a deputy stopped to offer assistance to the vehicle that had its emergency flashers on partially blocking the roadway near the intersection of Boyd's Crossing Road and C.R. Koon Highway in Newberry County. When the deputy went to help the four men and two-year-old child inside the 1992 Mercury, investigators say he stepped on a .22 caliber pistol. The deputy said the serial number had been scratched off the gun, so he determined the weapon was stolen.

At this point, investigators say the deputy called for backup and secured all of the men. A responding officer says he found another pistol in the waistband of one of the men.

Deputies say they found a gram of crack cocaine inside the gas cap of the vehicle and a box with 32 .22 caliber bullets in the trunk, after searching the car.

Deputies arrested 22-year-old Antwan Roshun Glymph of 409 Floyd Street in Newberry, 27-year-old James Anderson Wise of 3503 Dufford Street in Newberry, 21-year-old James Bernard Darby of 1819 Charles Street in Newberry and 23-year-old Preston Lamont Bates of 705 Center Street, Newberry.

Investigators say that during the incident, Wise admitted that the drugs were his, and that the vehicle belonged to him.

Wise was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of a firearm with the serial number removed or obliterated, and disorderly conduct. Glymph was charged with carrying a pistol unlawfully and possession of a firearm with the serial number removed or obliterated. Darby and Bates were each charged with possession of a firearm with the serial number removed or obliterated.

Bond has been set at $5000.00 for all four men.

Custody of the two-year-old child, who was Wise's child, was turned over to the child's grandmother.

Sheriff Lee Foster was relieved that the routine assistance did not turn into a violent situation. "I cannot imagine someone exposing their two year old child to this type of situation and environment," said Foster. "As if this situation were not bad enough, for a small child to have been involved with people engaged in drugs and guns is absolutely horrible. Sometimes as we sit and ponder what is wrong with children today, maybe we need only look to the actions of the parents, guardians, and role models of today's society."
